Our Moore House blog, “A Bit Moore”, has always been a place to share the ideas behind Moore House Design. The projects we’re working on, the pieces we’re sourcing, and the thinking that goes into our work. Now, we’re making room for even more conversation.
At the beginning of this month, I introduced my Substack, a weekly piece written by me. It is a more personal extension of the Moore House Design world: a place for me to step outside of the finished project and share with you all a little more of what I am thinking about, noticing, reading, remembering, and loving lately.
For those who have followed “A Bit Moore” and wanted to know more about the person behind the work, my Substack offers exactly that: a closer look at my perspective, stories, and opinions.
Every Friday, Without Fail
Every. Single. Friday.
I am bringing you a short, thoughtful read to start the weekend. Something you can read with your morning coffee or return to at the end of a busy week. Where “A Bit Moore” gives our stories room to unfold, my Substack is meant to feel a little more immediate, and a little more conversational. It is about inviting you into my inner thoughts along the way.
A More Personal Look at Blair
The biggest difference is also the simplest: I write it completely myself. No edits, no filter, just me.
My Substack is my own voice, perspective, and point of view. It is a space where I can speak a little more freely and personally than we might in our longer-form blog. That means the subjects can wander a little. One week might be about design. Another might be about fashion, travel, or craftsmanship. There might be a story from growing up in Australia, a memory from my years studying fashion at Parsons in New York, a thought about antiques and patina, or something as simple as a detail I noticed that week and couldn't stop thinking about.
There is room for opinions, too. What I would choose, what I wouldn't, what I have changed my mind about, and the things I keep coming back to. And then there is my everyday life: family, entertaining, places I love, things I'm reading, and all of the small observations that tend to become part of the way I see design.
Don’t think of it as a closer look at “Blair the designer” or “Blair the Founder and Creative Director”, but at me as a person and thinker, and at the experiences that have shaped the way I approach everything from a room to a piece of clothing to a table set for friends.
So Far, on Substack…
Since launching, my Substack has already taken us into a few different corners of my world.
“The New York Minute” looked back at my time living in New York and studying fashion at Parsons. I explored the way living in New York shaped my eye, from fashion and architecture to art, culture, and the endless visual stimulation of the city. It was a look at how experience, more than any single classroom, can influence the way we see.
The week prior, I explored a completely different subject.
In “Why I Don’t Want a “Perfect” Home”, I explored one of the ideas that sits at the heart of my approach to design: the belief that a home should have character. Patina, wear, history, and the things that make a space feel genuinely lived in can be just as important as what is new. For me, perfection has never been the goal. Personality is.
And that is part of what makes the Substack so fun. There isn't one subject it needs to fit into.
Same Blair, Just a Little More Bite-Sized
My Substack is most definitely not replacing “A Bit Moore”, the two simply give me different ways to tell the stories behind Moore House Design.
Our monthly journal gives Moore House Design the space to dive into a project, explore a design philosophy, or tell a story in greater detail. On my Substack, the reads are shorter. The format is simpler. But the intention is the same: to share ideas with thoughtfulness, personality, and a strong point of view. Both are worth making time for. They just ask for different amounts of it. It may be shorter, but the point of view is unmistakably me.
Think of it like this. “A Bit Moore” gives you the inside scoop of all things Moore House Design, while my Substack gives you the inside scoop of all things Blair.
