The Moore House June Monthly!

Featuring 2020 ANM Residence - Beirut, designed by David/Nicolas, Photos by Matthieu Salvaing

WE’RE BACK! If you’re new here (HI!), at the end of each month(ish) we round up all of the articles, designs, reveals, and more that have inspired our team in the past thirty days. It’s been one of our busiest months yet — though we feel like we say that every month — so it’s wild to think next week is July! We’re always exploring the depths of Pinterest, Instagram and the various publications we’re subscribed to, and since there is so much goodness out there, we like to share our own findings with you.

#1 - I recently found myself across the paths of David/Nicolas Beirut-based design studio duo and their millwork has me swooning from the rooftops! I mean the detailing here is second to none and it’s 100% worth it to deep dive down the rabbit hole of both their work & a little bit about the duo and their history. David/Nicolas work is often described as retro-futurism — a bit of nostalgia and a bit of futurism… which is a direction I can get behind.

As you know here at Moore House Design we are millwork heavy but I mean … this takes it to a whole other level!
We tend to work on more historical projects but, if you notice there is always a slight nod in our work to Mid-Century Italian detailing and modern accents. I think that is because.. well, I (Blair) am obsessed with the balance of Italian Mid-Century in every way possible. As you watch the great designers throughout their evolution of design, they always have their own spin on something that really has created a moment, or their mark on history. And a blend of English Cotswolds with a slight nod to modern Italian Mid-Century furnishings is where my fascinations lie.

#2 - This article from the New York Times — Titled — What Happens When You Get So Influential That You’re Bored by Your Own Aesthetic? Was a great read! A dive into the the behind the curtain look at the rapid move to fame of Athena Calderone and her complete 180 pivot to her new space in Tribeca!

I love this departure from her classic white wall kitchen and most iconic pinned bathrooms. A true artist has to flex their muscles and I am very excited to see what she does with this one. What has also been a blessing to see are that interiors are rumbling towards the roaring twenties focusing on millwork and craftsmanship and this has been a breath of fresh air to see more clients of ours and this direction within the interiors industry.

“It is complicated to pinpoint exact moments when culture shifts. The Canal Zone Party, as it is famously known, was without question one of these catalysts; a collision of creative personalities and ideas that led to the making of a slew of wildly influential artwork coming out of both downtown and uptown communities in New York throughout the 1980s.”

- COLBY MUGRABI

#3 - This amazing article one of our clients sent us. We have been heavily sourcing art for a few projects so this article was top of mind! Friends came together while working for Canal Jeans and joined forces with The Fab 5 Graffiti Group to collaborate on an event that would change the New York culture forever. It definitely did that! The goal of this event was to bring artists from two different worlds together for one nigh

Sidenote — We Are Booking Projects for 2023-2024.

Our Design Ideology

We pride ourselves on our ability to look beyond what’s trendy right now. With a philosophy informed by our respect for historical architecture, our intention is to design with intellectual creativity while staying true to the original character of a structure. We create cohesive interiors that focus on function while layering organic, sustainable elements that bring depth and sculpture into each space.

Why should I hire an Interior designer? How are they different from an architect or design-build firm?

We might be biased, but an interior designer is as crucial to a space as a builder or architect. We focus on the flow and function of a space from and internal aspect to create a cohesive design story throughout. We partner with our clients to make sure the build, flow, and function work for you and the proportions of your furnishings. We’re here to make sure your home meets your lifestyle needs. Great design is timeless and creates a connection between you and your family for years to come. Designers collaborate with other professionals—like architects and contractors—as needed, based on the type and scale of the project. Architects expertise is from the outside in whilst we focus on the inside out. Creating a home that functions, flows and is cohesive for your lifestyle. The two together create a beautiful marriage for your home and no detail will be overlooked!
